At least 27 passenger flights across Europe faced bomb threats on November 5, 2026, forcing diversions, emergency landings, or groundings, according to reports from Reuters and CNN. The incidents marked the second wave of such hoaxes in the span of a week.
Authorities treated the threats as false after security checks, but the disruptions affected multiple airlines and airports. Passengers on the affected flights experienced delays as planes were inspected. No explosives were found in any of the cases reported so far.
The earlier wave the previous week had already strained airport security protocols. The recurrence has prompted additional coordination among European aviation authorities and law enforcement. Officials have not publicly identified a source or motive for the coordinated false reports.
Bomb threats against aircraft are a recurring security issue in Europe and elsewhere. Most prove to be hoaxes, yet each requires a full response because of the potential risk. The November 5 incidents spanned several countries and carriers. Reuters reported the figure of at least 27 flights; CNN noted multiple flights hit for the second time in a week.
Airlines and airports activated standard protocols, including passenger deplaning where necessary, luggage screening, and aircraft searches. The disruptions added to already busy travel periods. No injuries were reported in connection with the responses.
European transport ministers and aviation regulators are expected to review the pattern in the coming days. Previous waves of similar threats have led to temporary increases in screening and information-sharing among member states. The absence of any confirmed devices has not reduced the operational impact on schedules and passenger movements.
