Bar Council of India Co-Chairperson Y.R. Sadasiva Reddy on Saturday demanded the resignation of Chairperson Manan Kumar Mishra and called for an independent probe into a series of allegations against the statutory body.
The demand escalated pressure on Mishra amid the ongoing NALSAR row. A press conference planned for Saturday at the BCI office in New Delhi was postponed to August 24 because of concerns over the size of the expected gathering of advocates and media arrangements.
Reddy questioned the length of Mishra’s tenure and the overall functioning of the council. The allegations centre on administrative decisions and governance of the body that regulates the legal profession in India.
Mishra has not issued a public response to the resignation call as of Saturday evening. The BCI remains the apex body for advocates across the country, and internal disputes of this scale are rare.
The postponement of the press conference leaves the next formal exchange between the two leaders for Monday.
